FAST54: Saving Lives Through Creative Storytelling
Core Skills: Creative Storytelling • Brand Strategy • Community Engagement • Health Advocacy
In collaboration with Bobby Wagner, the Seattle Seahawks, and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, we developed FAST54, a graphic novel aimed at raising stroke awareness. This project was deeply personal for Wagner, as he lost his mother, Phenia Mae Wagner, to a stroke. In her honor, Bobby established the Phenia Mae Fund to raise awareness and support for stroke victims.
The graphic novel educates readers on the F.A.S.T. acronym (Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, Time to call 911) by weaving a compelling narrative where Bobby Wagner saves a stroke victim, not through superpowers, but by acting quickly. The story underscores the idea that anyone can be a hero by recognizing the signs and taking immediate action.
FAST54 received significant media attention, including a feature on ESPN, and Bobby Wagner wore custom Nike cleats adorned with the comic’s artwork during an NFL game to further amplify the message. His leadership on and off the field, bolstered by the success of the FAST54 project, played a critical role in his nomination for the prestigious NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.
Through the combined efforts of visual storytelling and community advocacy, FAST54 not only raised stroke awareness but also honored the legacy of Phenia Mae Wagner, making a lasting impact on audiences across multiple platforms.
